Keith Custis is a compassionate and dedicated litigator who founded Custis Law, P.C. to help individuals facing difficult work issues. Keith focuses his practice on the representation of employees in cases involving wrongful termination, workplace discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wage and hour laws and violations of the numerous laws that require job-protected leaves of absence. Keith also represents employees and consumers in wage and hour and consumer class actions.
Having represented some of the largest companies in the world, Keith evaluates employment law matters from every angle and perspective, including the employer’s point of view. He is a strategic negotiator and effective litigator who provides caring, personalized representation focused on each client’s individual goals and circumstances.
After growing up in Ohio and Iowa, Keith graduated from the University of Georgia, cum laude, with a degree in English. Keith then worked for the United Way of the Capital Area in Hartford, Connecticut, raising funds that were distributed to health and human service agencies throughout the Hartford area.
In the early ’90s, Keith obtained a Master of Fine Arts from American University in Washington, D.C., in Creative Writing —and was recognized as having the best master’s thesis of his graduating class. Keith also taught writing at American University. For a few years, Keith also worked as a model and actor, appearing in numerous films including The Firm, The Pelican Brief and In the Line of Fire, among others.
Keith graduated magna cum laude from Boston College Law School in the top 5% of his class. At Boston College, Keith served as an executive editor of the Boston College Law Review, which is consistently ranked in the top 25 law journals in the country, and was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Coif.
Keith spent his first year of practice clerking for the Honorable Mark L. Wolf of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
From 1998 through 2009, Keith represented numerous Fortune 500 companies in consumer class action and other commercial litigation. Keith worked with the Complex Financial Litigation Group at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP in Boston until 2001. In 2002, Keith practiced with Stroock, Stroock & Lavan LLP, in Los Angeles, where his practice focused on the defense of consumer class actions on behalf of national banks and credit card issuers. Representative clients included American Express, Citibank, and Washington Mutual Bank.
Prior to founding Custis Law, P.C., Keith also worked with a consumer class action law firm where his work helped recover over $16,000,000 on behalf of his clients and class members. Keith also served as Special Counsel to a litigation boutique where his practice focused on the representation of employees and employers in all facets of individual and class action litigation.
In 2017, Keith successfully defended a $300,000,000 public contract that had been legitimately awarded to his client—after a competitor filed a protest, arguing that the contract should have been awarded to his client’s competitor. Keith also served as the principal of Custis Law Office, the predecessor to Custis Law, P.C., where he represented employees in wrongful termination and other employment matters, and companies in a broad range of business disputes.
Keith is active in the legal community and holds memberships in several bar associations dedicated to the vindication of employee and consumer rights, including the National Employment Lawyers Association and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles. Keith also serves as a member of the Dinner Committee of LACBA’s Labor & Employment Law Section, a committee that organizes continuing legal education programs for employment attorneys.
Keith is an avid world traveler and award-winning photographer whose work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe. Keith also has run six marathons, dozens of half-marathons, several triathlons, and brings the dedication and resilience necessary to compete in endurance sports to his work as an employment attorney in Los Angeles.
When he is not vindicating the rights of California employees and consumers, Keith can be found enjoying quality time traveling, hiking through Southern California’s mountains and cycling along the Pacific Coast Highway.
